The Crypto-V Alliance’s mission and its upcoming FIPS ’n’ Chips conference took center stage in a recent episode of the TopCyberPro podcast. Dr. Jim Goodman, Chair of the Crypto-V Alliance and CTO at Crypto4A, and returning guest Dr. Yi Mao, CEO of atsec information security US, joined host Jim West to discuss the Alliance’s work and the importance of cryptography in our daily lives.
The conversation explored the conference’s goals and focus, highlighting why it is particularly timely in light of Presidential Executive Order 14412.
Goodman and Mao also discussed the accelerating transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC), the importance of crypto agility, and the threat of both “harvest now, decrypt later” and “trust now, forge later” attacks as organizations prepare for Q-Day. Eric Amador’s PQC Today website, which will also be featured at FIPS ’n’ Chips, received a special mention as a resource for learning about cryptography.
Beyond the technical discussion, West invited Goodman to share his personal journey in information security, offering a glimpse into the experiences that shaped his career. The conversation also took a lighter turn with Goodman’s thoughts on Star Wars and Star Trek.
