Prof. Dr. Werner Schindler is a Section Head (Referatsleiter) at Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), where he is responsible for the evaluation of cryptographic mechanisms.
He has worked at BSI since 1993 and is a recognized expert in random number generators and side-channel analysis.
He is co-author of the mathematical-technical reference for the AIS 20 and AIS 31 evaluation guidelines covering deterministic and physical random number generators, often briefly referred to as AIS 20/31.
These guidelines have been effective in the former German Common Criteria scheme and its successor, the BSI Implementation of the EUCC scheme, for 25 years.
Werner Schindler is mathematician (Diploma 1989, Ph.D. 1991, postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) 1998, all at the Technical University of Darmstadt).
In addition to his work at BSI, Werner Schindler is an Adjunct Professor (außerplanmäßiger Professor) of Mathematics at the Technical University of Darmstadt.
